Pouring with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics: Sexy Colors

By the time this article and video reaches the blog and everything gets edited and uploaded, Valentines Day will be over. But this ‘sexy’ color scheme of black, red and silver is my husbands favorite so he’s now the new owner of this tile for his Valentines present this year. As usual, he was underwhelmed but I loved trying out these DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics.

The first time I tried these fluid acrylics, I did a very bright pour, a flip cup using magenta, yellow, cyan and white and wow, did it just explode with cells when I lifted the cup. This time, I’m trying something new (and I should have known better) and I thought I would give these a try in a puddle pour. Hahaha, already you know what’s going to happen – puddle pours are my nemesis! But could I at least make it presentable with these paints? Let’s see.

Materials used in this project:
Glossy ceramic tile
DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics: Metallic Silver, Carbon Black and Crimson Red Hue
Treadmill Silicone
Liquitex Pouring Medium

Recipe:
The DecoArt pouring medium isn’t available yet, so I’m going to mix mine with the Liquitex Pouring Medium. Consistency is easy in this case, its just pouring medium, plus a few drops of the fluid acrylics and it’s ready to pour. No water added.

Wow, another really interesting pour. Such great effects and lots of depth to the colors and the cells that were created. The transparent colors over black was always a bit of a gamble, but they performed really pretty well. I don’t see much in the way of any gold shimmer to the red, but the silver looks really good. Very shimmery and metallic. With the less silicone this time, I still got plenty of interesting activity but less dimpling on the finished surface. A few coats of varnish and those will most likely just disappear.

Check out the slideshow below for more images of this pour and some closeups of the great details.
