After the success of my first swipe (here), I had to give it another try. I’m fascinated by the sea, and am lucky enough to live on a tropical island with the sea right outside my window, so it’s only natural that I would want to use a lot of blue in my art.
Here I’m using blues and white, with a hint of silver and some yellow. I do mess up again by not properly wiping off my swiping tool so I make a bit of a mess on my white at the top, but I get great cells and I love the way the blue at the top bleeds into the white. Totally gorgeous. That’s it – I’m officially hooked on pouring!
I’d love for you to subscribe to my YouTube channel. I need 100 subscribers before I can pick a channel name. Thanks.
Here’s the finished painting – love it!
After being told in high school that she was so bad at art that she should switch to another subject, Deby didn’t paint again for 35 years. Then a stroke released a new wave of creativity and she began exploring with dot painting, abstract and eventually acrylic pouring, and at last the joy of working with color returned. You don’t need ‘talent’ to be an acrylic pouring artist – just enthusiasm, some basic instruction, and a willingness to try, fail and try again. Paint along with her and learn from her many mistakes, and you’ll soon make great art together.
WHAT? You live on a tropical island?! Let me know when I can come visit and we can do some flip cups and flip flops! I tried my first mini pours last night. No success with cells. I love, love the sound of the ocean, tropical breezes and palm trees. The first keeper pour I make will be an abstract tropical sea.
All paint smugglers are welcome to visit – you can camp on my beach 🙂
how do you make your white ? thank you
The white is mixed the same as the other paints for this one. 1 part Floetrol, 2 parts paint, water as needed plus a couple of drops of silicone.
You are so awesome! I’m new to this too. However, I am using resin. I just love how you “go for it.” This is what creating is all about. Not everything works out perfectly all of the time, but we all learn from our experiences. Keep it up. Thanks for being “real.”
Oh there are always plenty of unexpected results along the way, some good, some bad, but it is always fun trying 🙂 Thanks for following along.
Is it the silicon oil that makes the cells come through? 🙂
Its a mixture of differing paint densities and the silicone that makes the cells. You can get the effects without silicone if you pick your paints carefully, but adding the oil makes it easier.
That’s great. What did you seal it with to make it look so glossy?
Love your experiments.
Thanks Brenda. I love the polycrylic varnish. I wrote about it in this article here.
You have it backwards. I’m new as well . I get cells without using silicone . Please try mixing paint with floetrol 1 part paint to 2 parts floetrol when using fluid paint .Soft body add 1 part paint to 2 parts floetrol. Hard body use at least 3 parts floetrol or more . Patrice
