How to Solve Acrylic Pouring Problems With Your Canvas

Argghh, another mess today. Entirely my own fault as usual. I still have a lot to learn! Today my problems were two-fold. Boring colors and a canvas panel that really doesn’t like all that paint on it.

I don’t have access to a huge range of colors here on the island, at least not affordable ones, so I decided today to try with some of my ‘less exciting’ colors and went for more organic colors. Two browns, a yellow ochre and white with a splash of orange.

At least I’m learning that before rushing in, it’s always a good idea to test colors and techniques before adding them to the large canvas so I did make quite a cute mini painting which I did like but then I wasn’t so keen on the larger one, scraped it and tried again. It’s OK. They aren’t my colors really – I love the bright colors. But it was a successful painting nonetheless.

Check out how I go about it in the video, making the mini and then how it ends up. And if you like my videos, please subscribe and hit the little ‘bell’ icon to be notified of new ones 🙂

I was able to straighten out the panel by wetting it on the back and then lying it flat on a hard surface under a couple of heavy items for a couple of days. Since finishing with the clear varnish, it’s been just fine and stayed nice and flat. I’m happy with it!

    1. I’m using a plastic scraping tool from the decorating section of the DIY store. It does need a very light touch.
