I am so excited and delighted to finally announce that the Getting Started With Acrylic Pouring guide is now ready. I took into account all of the questions being asked over and over in our Facebook Group to make sure I didn’t leave out any of the essentials that a new painter needs to know in order to be successful with their first pours.
The Getting Started With Acrylic Pouring guide is a PDF e-book you can download and read on your computer, tablet etc and includes:
- Safety considerations
- Terms and definitions
- Tools and equipment you will need (and where to get them)
- Which additives to use to make cells
- Mixing your paints to the right consistency (with video)
- A basic paint recipe to get you started
- Preparing your surface
- Instructions for a regular pour, a dirty pour, a flip cup and a swipe
- Tips on drying, cleaning and finishing your painting
- 4 exclusive videos to get you started
The guide includes a basic get started recipe that you can use with regular craft paints to take the guess work out of getting the right paint consistency. A video shows you exactly how to mix up the paints and get the right consistency for the perfect pours. I worked very hard and did a LOT of experimenting to work out what I think is the perfect beginner formula to be able to create cells in your painting without the need to use a torch.
Watch the intro video to learn more about the Get Started Guide
If you’ve been striving to create large cells, this guide will show you exactly how to do it, step by step.
Don’t spend days searching on YouTube and getting confused with all the different recipes and techniques! You’ll get frustrated with all the different information, waste a lot of time, and potentially waste a lot of paint and materials. Cut straight to success with your first paintings with this no-nonsense step by step Get Started Guide.
To make checkout and download easy, the Guide is hosted on Craftsy.com, a fantastic online learning resource with classes in all sorts of topics. You add the ebook to your cart and checkout. After checkout, you can download immediately and you will also get a download link sent to your email address. Then don’t forget to check out their online art classes while you are there. Lots for the acrylic painter and budding artist. Maybe even one day a class on acrylic pouring!
You can see a preview of the typical layout of the book, and some of the pages below.
After being told in high school that she was so bad at art that she should switch to another subject, Deby didn’t paint again for 35 years. Then a stroke released a new wave of creativity and she began exploring with dot painting, abstract and eventually acrylic pouring, and at last the joy of working with color returned. You don’t need ‘talent’ to be an acrylic pouring artist – just enthusiasm, some basic instruction, and a willingness to try, fail and try again. Paint along with her and learn from her many mistakes, and you’ll soon make great art together.
Can I download the ebook as many times as I need and to any devices? For example, if I download It to my mobile phone, could I do It further to my PC? Can I download it again and again? Thank you!
Yes you can download it to all of your personal devices.
Does this come in a book form or is it only for download.
I ask because I ordered this book on the 14th of January and paid via PayPal and I have not yet received it. I am so keen to get started can you help with delivery.
There isn’t any printed version because much of the content is video-based, so it’s download only. I just replied to your email about the same too. Click the link in the receipt you had when you bought and you can download again, even if you missed doing it when you bought.
Do you speak french please svp
Sorry Danielle, I don’t speak French. But Google Translate works quite well.
can I downlod the paid for boom onto all devices
Its a PDF file, so as long as you have the right app or software you can open and read it on any device.
Hi Deby! I’m in the UK, but I see it’s in USD. Will I have to pay shipping from the States?
Not at all. This is a PDF ebook so you download it to your computer immediately after paying. No shipping required 🙂
Deby, get it translated into French, and possibly other languages by some one. You might find a translation service on the Internet. It seems that there is interest in many art forms in different countries.
I did get the whole book translated into German but it hasn’t sold any copies, so I can’t really afford to go through that expense again without some sales to pay for it. I think it won’t really sell because people who don’t speak English won’t be visiting my site anyway.
Hello from Denmark. 🙂 I´m a danish woman and have just read about this (in my world) new art form. Just joined your news letter too. I´m not a pro in your language, but I´ll surely do my best, to find out more of how to work with this beautiful new art. Love your site. I also have bought you e-book “Getting Started with Acrylic Pouring. Regards from Marianne.
Thank you so much Martinne, great to hear this joyful art form is spreading around the world.
Are the supplies listed in your e-book available in the US. I use (and have a large stock of Golden fluid (liquid) acrylics. Will they work with the methods suggested in the book?
Yes all the supplies are listed with US links where you can get them. The recipe in the book uses the standard acrylic paints though because this is what the majority of people use. I’ve never tried the fluid or high flow acrylics so can’t suggest the perfect recipe. It looks like mixing them about 1:10 with your pouring medium gives the correct ratio from what I have read.
Are supplies readily available in the UK?
Absolutely they are, yes. You will find that everything in the UK costs more than the US, isn’t that always the case, but you can get everything you need. The book also includes UK links for all the materials.
Have fallen in love with this fun and creative painting
Will your course work for someone using house paint ?
The closest art supply store is 225 miles away.
Ordering online can take up to 2 weeks before delivery and the Post Office is 65 miles away, I get my mail once a week.
You sound like you have similar supply issues to me here on the island. I have to wait 8 weeks+ for my supplies to arrive so I understand. My post office is a 2 hour trip as well. However, I have never used house paints for any of my paintings so I cannot give you any recipes or advice for how to work with those. I wouldn’t recommend the class if you only have access to house paints because I’m not able to predict how the recipes would work with them. Sorry.
I hope you don’t mind me asking but you sound English yet you seem to live on a remote island – may I ask where this is? x
I was born in the UK and lived near to Bristol for a long time, but after some time of travelling around, we have now settle in the Cayman Islands for more than 10 years now. It’s a British Overseas Protectorate, so it feels familiar and yet has better weather.
Hi
I’ve used house paint (emulsion) and it’s fine
Hi I’m from India and silicone, floteral are not available here neither they are shipped what to do any alternative for making cells
You can get supplies from Amazon in India. Here is the right sort of silicone for example. Your local paint stores may have some sort of paint extender or conditioner which is similar to Floetrol but a different brand, or you can use a gloss medium which should be available in good art stores.
Pardon.
How about i use 12ml of Marie’s acrylic paint? it’s that works for fluid abstract art?
That is not a brand I am familiar with, so I can’t give any exact recipe for that one. Sorry. But all acrylic paints seem to work well with this style of painting, providing you get them to the right consistency to pour.
Are all specific gravities for Golden paints included in this book?
They arent in the book, but they are public information and available on the Golden website if you want to know them. Try here – http://www.goldenpaints.com/admin/image/get_assets/density-of-pigments-used-in-golden-acrylic-colors.pdf
Hi, I am trying to find a cheap, minimal equipment list and I can’t find one anywhere!!!
What are the basic things I need to do this?
Check out the getting started kit article here Rosie and then pick paints, materials and mediums that suit your budget. https://acrylicpouring.com/basic-supplies-get-started-acrylic-pouring/
Does this book come as a paperback? I don’t want a digital copy because I am not really that techy.
Sorry no, it’s just a digital version. Much of the value in the content comes from the links and the videos, and those wouldn’t work in a paperback book.
is er geen nederlandse beschrijving ??
Nee, ik spreek geen Nederlands en kan geen video’s in die taal schrijven of produceren.
Just downloaded your book.
Looking forward to this new adventure!
Lorie
